London’s Fire Station 1 served double duty on Saturday (June 21) as firefighters traded in their boots and bunker gear for soapy sponges for the 14th annual Dreams Take Flight car wash and barbecue.
Hosted by the London Professional Fire Fighters Association (LPFFA), dozens of volunteers joined with off duty firefighters at the hall to put a shine on a steady stream of cars in need of a good wash.
Dreams Takes Flight is a program created by employees of Air Canada in 1989. Working with various organizations, service clubs and sponsors, the program gives children with special needs who might not otherwise of had opportunity, the chance to spend a day in Disneyland.
Working in association with the Boys and Girls Club of London, all money raised from the event goes to help the LPFFA send four local kids on a Dreams Take Flight trip each year.
