The inaugural KidSport London Annual Charity Golf Classic, held last June at The Oaks Golf Club, raised funds to support the group’s mandate of helping kids get involved with organized sports.
Late last year, KidSport London and London Sports Council lost a pillar of its committees when Jim Allen suddenly passed away.
“In memory of Allen, executive director of the London Sports Council, it was announced on March 17 the name of our annual golf tournament had been changed to The 2nd Annual KidSport London – Jim Allen Memorial Golf Tournament," said Tournament Chair Bill Berrylees, who made the announcement. “The London Sports Council can think of no better way to honour the memory of Jim than to make his name a permanent fixture in one of the largest fundraising events held for KidSport London.”
For many years, Allen has been the administrator of the KidSport London program that has helped several hundred local families.
With the support of Allen’s family, the renamed golf tournament will be formally instilled as such at the June 10th tournament.
Allen was a teacher, coach, athlete, mentor and friend who organizers said left an indelible mark on the lives of others. He was also an avid golfer and member of the organizing committee for the annual golf tournament.
