Author David Hickey celebrated his local book launch Saturday (Dec. 17) by reading his new story to his young fan base, while offering a little incentive.
Hickey, a London resident, was at the London Children’s Museum reading his first book for kids, A Very Small Something, to about 20 youth under eight years old.
The book tells a story about a girl, Olive Bezzlebee, who lives next to the world’s biggest bubble gum factory, but she can’t blow a bubble. Setting out to solve the mystery of her missing bubbles, Olive disappears and causes the town to worry.
The young readers who turned out for the event, listened carefully to Hickey, but were eager for cake and a bubble gum scavenger hunt planned for the end of the event.
Hickey, 34, has published two poetry books and his work can also be seen in magazines and journals across Canada.
Illustrations for A Very Small Something were done by Stratford’s Alexander Griggs-Burr.
