TORONTO - Toronto police say the husband of former Ontario health minister George Smitherman has gone missing.
Police say Christopher Peloso, 39, was last seen Monday at 4 p.m. in the city's midtown (near Davenport Road and Bathurst Street).
Police describe Peloso as white, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds with brown eyes and short, light-brown hair.
They say he was last seen wearing a dark-blue jacket with hood, tan-coloured cargo shorts and blue flip-flops.
Police are concerned for his safety.
Smitherman served as the province's deputy premier, health minister and energy minister before he stepped down to run for Toronto mayor in 2010.
The couple were married in August 2007 and have two kids.
Smitherman said in a statement Tuesday that he and his family hope Peloso is found quickly.
"Michael, Kayla and myself, with the support of family and friends, are hopeful that our husband and father will be home safely soon."
