No injuries after east London roof fire

Our London

They say good fences make good neighbours but the occasional call to 911 doesn’t hurt, either.

Police, fire and paramedics were called to Sanders Street between Flora and Trafalgar shortly before 6 p.m. Monday (July 21) for a structure fire at a detached home on the east side of the street.

Larry, who lives across the road, called 911 and ran over with his own garden hose when he saw flames coming from the front of the roof.

He said the owner had been using a torch to melt tar on the roof when it caught fire.

“I guess it had caught and he put it out and left,” Larry said. “But it started up again so I didn’t waste any time.”

Paramedics paid some attention to an adult woman at the scene but no one was brought to hospital.

Firefighters could be seen removing melted and damaged siding from the front of the house once the fire was extinguished. A damage estimate was not available.
