Pharmacy robbery in north London leads to chaos

Our London

A 25-year-old London man has been arrested following a busy morning for London police who were dealing with multiple incidents connected to a pharmacy robbery early Friday morning.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 21, an unoccupied vehicle that was left idling at an address on Philbrook Drive was stolen and driven to the PharmaPlus at Fanshawe Park Road and Adelaide Street.

The suspect entered the pharmacy and demanded medication. He was provided with an undetermined quantity of drugs, at which point he fled the store in the stolen vehicle.

The pharmacist came outside and was struck by the vehicle, which dragged him for a short distance. The pharmacist was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect drove away westbound on Fanshawe Park Road, crossing the eastbound lanes, where the vehicle soon collided with another vehicle travelling east. Both vehicles came to rest just south of the intersection at Stoneycreek Crescent. There were no injuries sustained by the suspect or the driver of the other vehicle.

The suspect fled the vehicle and broke into a residential garage at a nearby address where he was arrested a short while later.

Const. Ken Steeves praised the work of not only officers involved in the incident, but also citizens who called in to report suspicious activity.

The incident, Steeves said, involved a lot of activity over a short period of time.

“It was a lot of events occurring within this one incident. We have the stolen vehicle, the robbery, a struck citizen, a collision between two vehicles; we have a break in to a garage. A lot has happened in a short period of time, but it has come to a good conclusion in that the suspect was arrested.”
