Pair arrested in London shooting

Our London

Two men have been arrested and charged after an early morning shooting in a parking lot at 1165 Oxford St. East Jan. 17 that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries.

David William Calvert, 32, and David William Smith, 31, both of London, are jointly charged with aggravated assault. Additionally, Calvert is charged with a number of offences relating to the possession of a firearm.

Both men were arrested outside of a residence on Empire Street at about 11 p.m. Sunday night.

Police are continuing efforts to locate the firearm used in the incident and the possibility that it was discarded in the area of the shooting has not been ruled out. Members of the public in the vicinity of Oxford Street East and Empire Street are asked to be aware of the possible presence of a handgun and to report any suspicious items to police.

Police arrived at the scene Sunday morning to find the 23-year-old victim suffering from a single gunshot wound.

He has since been released from hospital.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in on-line anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
