Man back in custody after escaping cops

KENORA, Ont. — The OPP say a 31-year-old man is back in custody after leading police on a pursuit in northwest Ontario.

Constable Diana Cole says the handcuffed man fled while being transported to the courthouse in Kenora on Friday afternoon crossing the ice on the Kenora Bay as he made his way from island to island.

Cole says search and rescue, the emergency response team and canine unit were brought in, and the escapee was eventually arrested on Treaty Island.

Police chased him for about an hour.

There were no injuries in the incident, but police say the man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version said the man was arrested on Coney Island.
