For the second year in a row, the Western University Mustangs have struck gold at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women’s Lacrosse Championships.
Playing in Kingston this past weekend, (Oct. 27-28), Western first rolled over York University 14-3 before knocking out Queen’s University in the semi-final by a score of 15-10.
Taking on the University of Guelph Gryphons in the championship game Sunday afternoon, Western found themselves trailing Guelph 5-3 after two quarters of play.
The Mustangs however, were far from done. Lead by Michelle Farrugia and Tawnie Johnson, Western came out blazing in the second half, scoring seven unanswered markers on the way to posting a 12-7 victory over Guelph to claim the OUA Women’s Lacrosse title for the second year running.
The win also caps of Western’s second straight perfect season and is the third time in four years that the women’s lacrosse squad has laid claim to the OUA title.
