BHi Super Ball a snowy success

Our London

While people are getting their popcorn ready for Sunday’s Super Bowl, about 50 sport fans took out their hockey sticks to get ready for BHi’s Third Annual Super Ball on Saturday (Feb. 2).

Seven teams — four in the recreational division and three in the open class — took the Clarke Road ball hockey pad in hopes of winning the coveted BHi hoodies to keep themselves a little bit warmer.

If you think some of the Forest City’s arenas are cold, the Super Ball players dressed in toques and hockey gloves in -8 C weather, while snow fell throughout the action.

Instead of the typical Zamboni to clean the ice at a hockey game, the BHi staff broke out the shovels for an hour to clear the plastic surface.

League games are usually played on Sundays but come Super Bowl time the turnout tends to be a little less, so instead of a two-week layoff the all-day tournament was invented.
