The Western Mustangs men’s soccer team continues to roll through the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season schedule. On Sunday (Oct. 5), the Mustangs improved their season record to 8-4-1 with convincing 4-0 shutout win over the Brock Badgers.
Playing at home on Mustang Field, the Western men weren’t long in taking full control of the game.
Twenty-three minutes into the contest, Amad El-Houni tucked the ball past Brock netminder Matthew Zalkos to open the scoring for Western. Three minutes later, it was Mustangs defender Adam Jaekel recording his second of the season to put the hometown squad up by two headed out of the first half.
At the 67-minute mark Christian Douglas widened the gap to three and then a minute later, notched his second of the game off a header to make it 4-0 for the Mustangs.
Back between the Western pipes, Ben Cowman stood tall in goal, holding of a late Badgers assault to record his fifth shutout of the season.
Currently holding down third spot in the OUA west division standings, the Mustangs are of to Waterloo on Wednesday (Oct. 8) for a date with the Laurier Golden Hawks before heading home to do battle with the McMaster Marauders on Oct. 11.
