RCR Museum marks anniversary of Battle at Vimy Ridge

Our London

April 9-12 marks the 96th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge, the First World War military engagement many historians feel stands as one of the county’s greatest military successes and a defining moment in Canadian history.

To mark the occasion, members of the Canadian Great War Society (CGWS), dressed in period uniform of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, were on hand at the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) Museum located in the Wolseley Barracks on Oxford Street on Saturday (April 6). Bringing with them various items of memorabilia and kit for visitors to see, the volunteer group of First World War re-enactors helped to recreate some of the atmosphere surrounding that period of time during the Great War.

The RCR was part of the combined Canadian assault on Vimy, attacking the German positions as a battallion of the 3rd Canadian Division – one of four that took part in the battle.
